Josh Gordon, ahem, "writes" open letter to critics

The troubled Browns' receiver has "written" a detailed essay and released it to the general public, although it is aimed squarely at the many prominent critics who have grown either tired of watching him waste his God-given talent, or genuinely concerned about the dangerous path on which he seems to be traveling.

To be honest, I'm not sure which aspect of this letter offends me more: the uncanny way in which Gordon toggles back and forth between claiming ownership for his own mistakes, and blaming others for his problems...or the ridiculous notion that the 23-year-old wide receiver "wrote" a single word of this well-crafted piece of publicist-driven propaganda. 

 "What I do know is the following: I am not a drug addict; I am not an alcoholic; I am not someone who deserves to be dissected and analyzed like some tragic example of everything that can possibly go wrong for a professional athlete. And … I am not going to die on account of the troubled state you wrongly believe my life to be in. I am a human being, with feelings and emotions and scars and flaws, just like anyone else. I make mistakes — I have made a lot of mistakes — but I am a good person, and I will persevere."

You can read the entire letter, clearly hand-crafted by not just a single publicist, but most likely an entire team of lawyers collaborating with the creative writing professors at one or more local universities, and judge for yourself.

Unarmed suspect killed by officer in November--ignored by media, govt. leaders

As the focus continues to be on people of color being killed in confrontations by police, why did the shooting of THIS unarmed suspect being shot--captured by police body camera--not make it to the national news?

I'll give you one guess.

So who's the REAL villain in "Deflate-Gate"?

Generally speaking, I like teams that win with class, and lose with class, and compete with class. That's one of the reasons I despise the Seahawks--because I don't think they do anything with class. It's also a reason I've hated the Patriots through the years. I think Bill Belichick is rude. I think he's an egomaniac who feels like he’s so far superior to you that he doesn't have to talk to you. It's one of the reasons I can't stand New England. Yet somehow, I find myself continuing to defend the Patriots in this whole issue.

For one thing, I just find it so hypocritical that so many people are so judgmental right now about one guy or a couple guys bending the rules a little bit in their favor.  As individuals, we seem to be just fine with bending the rules when they work in our favor, yet we’re outraged when somebody bends the rules and it's not in our favor--or our team’s favor.

Take the Lions and Cowboys wild card game for example. Cowboys fans wanted Lions fans to shut up over the picked-up flag on the pass interference call. They were just fine with a rule being broken by Anthony Hitchens. As long as the refs were okay with it, they were fine with the rule being broken and the opposing team being screwed.

Then, the next week, when the Dez Bryant catch was disallowed, they were screaming that they had been cheated by the officials and by the rules. So one week, Lions fans are just bitter losers who don't like the rules, and the next week, Cowboy fans want the rules changed.

Speaking of "American Sniper"...the true story of American war hero Chris Kyle, Michael Moore actually says this:

Tell us, Michael Moore...how do you suppose your uncle felt about the sniper in his OWN unit? You know, the man--like Chris Kyle--whose job was to take out as many of the enemy as possible, before the enemy killed them?

Opening Doors: Literally and Figuratively

Felt the need to share with you a beautiful story that was shared with me.

The video pretty much speaks for itself, so I won't bother spelling out the details for you here, except to say that most stories like Josh's do NOT have happy endings. 

Teenagers who are excluded and made to feel isolated too often resolve their issues in tragic ways, rather than inspirational ones.  If you have teens in your life, please keep the lines of communication open with them, and watch for warning signs of either being bullied...or being the bully.  And show them this video:
